Hi brianna you can work over the top with acrylic generally the more expensive the acrylics artist quality vs student grade the more paint pigment is used in the manufacturing so these paints will cover over the painting below more easily so it s a balance between cost of a new canvas or cost of paint to cover it over.
Never paint printed canvas using oil based paint or you will end up with disappointing results.
