This isn t the greatest picture but i can t take another right now.
Countertop window height.
While the exact measurements vary from manufacturer to manufacturer a table with a surface height of between 34 to 39 is considered to be counter height these tables are generally meant to correspond with the average height of a kitchen or reception counter.
I think bumping the window out is pretty important to getting the uncramped and open feeling that makes this look so appealing.
So widely accepted is this standard is that base cabinet manufacturers build all their cabinets to a height of 34 1 2 inches assuming an adequate toe kick and countertop thickness will be 1 1 2 inches.
The counter height bumped out window was one of the first things i saw on this site that i knew i had to have.
If the cabinets are 34 1 2 inches high and the countertop adds 1 1 2 inches increase the overall number by 4 inches for the backsplash making the minimum height for your window 41 inches.
For countertops the established standard is for the top of the countertop to fall about 36 inches above the floor.
For a traditional look with a sill and an apron at the bottom of the window add another 4 to 6 inches to the height to determine the standard kitchen.
I don t know of any actual standard for one but what is somewhat standard is your countertop would be at 36 your backsplash would be 4 more inches and you would need to leave several more inches for casings or apron so i would say make it at least 44 inches off the finished floor height that should also leave you a little allowance so your trim isn t squeezing your.
