Can You Drill Into Vinyl Windows

For wood framed buildings all windows are installed into a wood frame.

This is for window treatments. I replaced these windows myself so i got pretty familiar with the parts but just don t know how safe this is as. Vinyl window frames are only approximately 1 inch thick. The inside of a typical vinyl window frame will have spaced out chambers separated by vinyl webbing as a thermal and drainage system.

Those frames are not really solid. It will be very hard for someone to pull the unit out that way if you drill into the vinyl frames water will seep in and eventually rot out your wood window frames. Although drilling through the glass in a double pane window may seem odd the process can actually remedy moisture problems. If you have vinyl windows you won t be able to screw the brackets directly into the vinyl channel that holds the window.
